What we are

A Class 1 agency with its own lab

Metric is registered with the NYC Department of Buildings as a Class 1 Special Inspection Agency — the class required for structural concrete, soils, piles, masonry and steel. We are accredited for every category on the TR1 through TR8 forms.

Our concrete testing laboratory holds its own DOB license and is accredited by A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 for construction materials testing. We take part in the CCRL and AMRL proficiency sample programs. Cylinders, soil samples and masonry prisms are tested in Hicksville, by our own technicians, on our own equipment.

We are a New York City certified Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE) and a member of ASTM International.

Who does the work

Licensed engineers, certified inspectors

Every report is reviewed by a licensed Professional Engineer before it leaves the office. Every inspector on your site holds the certification the TR item requires — ACI, AWS, NICET, SAT or Troxler. The two principals are on job sites and in the lab, not only in the office.

How we work

No surprises at the DOB

Every project follows the same sequence. It is not complicated; it is simply done every time.

  1. Before the first pour: a preconstruction meeting. We review the drawings and the construction schedule with the owner, the general contractor and the subs, confirm which inspections the TR1 requires, and agree on how inspections are scheduled.
  2. A project manager on every job. One person tracks that every required inspection happens at the right time and frequency, and answers questions on project status.
  3. Logs for everything. For each project we keep an overall status of every required inspection, a report log of every visit, and a nonconformity log.
  4. Nonconformities reported within 24 hours. Site personnel are told on the spot; the written report reaches the responsible parties within a day. Our inspector works with the contractor to resolve the issue on site, and follows up until it is.
  5. Every report reviewed by a PE. Our Lead Professional Engineer reviews each inspection report and test result against the approved drawings before release, and signs the DOB forms.
  6. Reports the way your team works. Monthly by default, weekly or bi-weekly on request, by email and hard copy, and uploaded to Procore or your submittal platform.
  7. TRs filed on time. TCO and Certificate of Occupancy deadlines depend on signed special inspection forms. We make sure the paperwork is there when the project needs it.
